He took a break from his career from 1991 onwards, following the birth of his son. In 2006 he took part in an album by The Brain Surgeons, on which Albert Bouchard, drummer of Blue Öyster Cult, sang and played drums. From 2008, Ross The Boss began a solo career, still in the true metal genre.
In February 2026, he announced that he had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a neurodegenerative disease also known as Lou Gehrig's disease, which left him unable to play guitar. He died a month later, on 26 March 2026.
